The 4 C's of Diamonds
The 4c’s
Diamonds are graded with four particular C’s in mind. These C’s include : color , cut, clarity and carat weight.
Let’s start with the first one,
Color
Color actually means lack there of color when referring to a diamond. Diamonds are graded on a color scale of D-Z with D being colorless.
D-G are colorless
H-k near colorless
L-O Faint with color
P-v very light with color
W-Z light with color
Cut
Also known as the diamonds shape. These shapes range from a variety of different ones. They include but are not limited to Round( brilliant) Pear, Cushion, princess, emerald, marquise and oval.
Diamonds range from excellent to poor on the cut scale
Clarity
Natural diamonds are a result of carbon exposed to crazy amounts of pressure and heat. This process results in a variety of different traits called inclusions and blemishes. Think of them as the personality of a particular stone.
Determining the clarity of the stone is judged off of the number and size of inclusions or blemishes and also where they are located on the particular stone. Depending on these factors is how a diamonds clarity is is graded or determined
Carat weight
The diamonds carat weight measures the diamonds size and how much it weighs.
Of course, this is a general run down of some of the diamond basics and can be explained in more detail depending on the stones being looked at for future jewelry needs .
